(Spoiler Alert: My Skin Is *Glowing*)
I would describe my skin as always dry, sensitive, and pink. I’ve had rosacea since I was a child, but I was told I’d grow out of it; turn outs I didn’t. My addiction to trying new products has left my skin confused and angry with me at times. Instead of trying anything and everything, I’ve had to establish a new criteria for trying skincare that I know won’t disturb my skin: super moisturizing, fragrance and essential oil-free, hypo-allergenic, and cruelty-free.
Halcyon Botanic Serum from Whimsy Official checks off all my boxes. This serum is the first clean beauty serum to mimic the skin’s natural production of sebum which means this is especially great for me since my skin produces little oil after using Isotretinoin (formerly Accutane) when I was 16. Isotretinoin works to slow the production of oil and bacteria from the sebaceous glands, therefore, preventing acne. However, after I finished the full course of medication my skin’s ability to produce oil practically vanished. Since then, I’ve never been afraid of piling on the oils and I’ve finally found one that’s supportive of balancing the skin.
Thanks to my obsession with skincare and having very sensitive skin, I’ve had to educate myself about the allergens and irritants that I was unaware of in my typical skincare routine. I’m undergoing a skincare revolution and Halcyon Botanic Serum has been a catalyst. The switch to this clean serum has already done so much for my skin.
Before the review, let’s go over the key ingredients. Halcyon Botanic Serum contains 8 pure, cold-pressed botanical oils (all totally free of irritating essential oils). These wonderful oils include kalahari watermelon oil, rosehip seed oil, jojoba oil, camellia seed oil, apricot oil, strawberry seed oil, borage oil, and carrot seed oil. My personal favorites are jojoba and carrot seed oil.
A natural humectant for the skin jojoba oil helps repair and hydrate while also sealing in moisture due to its waxy contents. Next, full of vitamin A, C, and E, carrot seed oil helps protect from sun damage and supports production of collagen to keep skin supple and youthful. It also acts as a chemical-free retinol. A plethora of skincare benefits in just one of the key ingredients? Count me in.
Now, what you really came here for: here’s everything Halcyon Botanic Serum did for my skin.
It greatly reduced redness in my skin (no, seriously!).
This was the first improvement I saw in my skin. The morning after using it for the first time, I woke up to significantly less redness and very calm skin--and this is hard to achieve with my kind of sensitivity. I don’t normally wear oils during the day, but seeing the calming results, I’ve added it to my morning routine. My skin has continued to be calm and even-toned. I never thought I would say that.
It super-moisturized my skin.
My skin struggles badly during the winter months. I can always tell when the cold is coming by the state of my skin, and it practically peels off when I touch it. Now, just in time for the weather to get warm again, my skin is revived. I wish I started using this serum sooner. For the first time this winter season, I can put on a concealer without it clinging to my scales. This scaly skin used to make me feel super self-conscious, but not anymore. My scales are gone! Wearing the serum alone or adding a drop or two into my foundation gives me a hydrated glow like I just got back from a beach vacation (wearing SPF 100+ of course).
It evened out the texture.
I don’t mean to brag, but I don’t struggle with breakouts anymore after taking Isotretinoin in high school. However, I do experience some textured and bumpy skin along my cheeks and chin. The non-comedogenic formula and gentle resurfacing qualities of the serum has been the perfect combination to keep my skin free of texture and the rare breakout.
It gave me fabulous eyebrows.
After applying the serum to my skin, I always tap a little into my eyebrows and eyelashes. I’ve noticed significant growth and strength in my brows and lashes. I fill in my eyebrows less often and start to use a clear brow gel to hold those wild hairs in place. Watch out Brooke Shields!
Halcyon Botanic Serum has done wonders for my skin. My skin is glowing, even-textured, and protected. The skincare benefits of hydration, protection, gentle exfoliation, powerful antioxidants, an allergen-free formula, and the list goes on… makes this serum a multitasking superstar. Finally my skin has found what it’s been looking for.
